Production - 5,220 1955 Cameo Carriers
New for 1955 was an upscale pickup called the Cameo Carrier. The truck's bed sides and other fiberglass parts were built in the same factory as early Corvettes then shipped to Chevrolet plants for installation on a standard steel stepside with outer fenders removed. The tail-lights were production 1954 Bel Air units and the wheel covers were 1955 Bel Air passenger car covers. All 1955 Cameos were Bombay Ivory with the rear cab pillars, interior detail, and the inside of the bed painted red. The Cameo added $425 over the base price of a pickup and 5,220 were built in 1955.
Chevrolet's sister division at General Motors, GMC, got their own version of the Cameo Carrier first known as the "Town and Country" was later changed to "Surburban Pickup."
