The 265cid V8 engine was used for the entire 1957 model year and a larger 283cid V8 engine was introduced.. The bypass breather tube went down the passenger side of the engine to the oil pan. The casting number for the 265cid V8 block is #3720991 and the 283cid block is #3731548. The 283cid block was redesigned so a grooved rear cam journal would not be necessary.
The engine, including the rocker arm covers, are Chevrolet Red although it appears more orange than the red used in 1956 with silver script on the rocker arm covers.
